7 reasons to organize an olive oil tasting

7 razones por las que organizar una cata de aceite de oliva

Last month our taster Pep Ribas organised a tasting in Corbera de Llobregat. It was such a resounding success that we have decided to tell you 7 reasons why you should organise an olive oil tasting for your event, for your restaurant or simply to enjoy with your loved ones.

1- It is a different event

A gastronomic plan with friends, a networking event… Tasting olive oil is a fun, affordable activity that does not require previous experience and, due to its educational nature, can be interesting for any curious mind or person passionate about gastronomy.

2- It's for everyone

It does not conflict with dietary preferences such as veganism or halal cuisine. Tastings of products such as beer, coffee or cheese may not suit specific individuals in large groups. Olive oil, due to its flavour, its natural origin and its presence in our cuisine, is a consensus product for events and groups where diversity is paramount.

3- It is a totally beneficial product for health

When it comes to wine tastings, it is always easy to find yourself unable to participate, either because you have to drive or because of a doctor's prescription. Olive oil is unlikely to have this problem, and the diversity of flavours it displays makes it possible to create an event as stimulating as a wine tasting.

4- You will learn many things you didn't know

From what makes an oil extra virgin to how to taste it. Live and putting into practice all the sensations that are always difficult to write or describe in words.

5- You will discover the best olive oil mills in Spain

As you might expect, if you hire Pep Ribas to carry out a tasting at your event, Origen Oliva can provide you with a selection of the best extra virgin olive oils from our region. This way, you will not only learn what distinguishes a good extra virgin olive oil from a common one, but you will also learn about award-winning products that are benchmarks in gastronomy.

6- You will get inspiration for your recipes

Because frying oil is not the same as dressing oil. In an olive oil tasting you will discover the differences between them and learn when to use them, as well as the principles of pairing. In the same way, you will discover the most common varietals in Spain, or the most exceptional ones in the kitchen and their fascinating properties.

7- You will highlight a unique product of our gastronomy.

Although we use olive oil every day, sometimes we do not appreciate all that it can offer us or the importance of consuming a quality, local product that is respectful of the environment.
