Francisco Reyes, president of the Provincial Council of Jaén, has revealed today the eight extra virgin olive oils that will carry the "Jaén Selección" distinction throughout 2024. The brands honored with this quality distinction are:
As traditionally cultivated EVOOs:
- Oro Bailén, from Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99 SL. Villanueva de la Reina.
- Olibaeza, from SCA El Alcázar. Baeza.
- Puerta de las Villas, from SCA San Vicente. Mogón (Villacarrillo).
- Esencial Olive, from Oleícola San Francisco SL. Begíjar.
- Cazorla, from Aceites Cazorla SCA. Cazorla.
- Tierras de Canena, from SCA San Marcos. Canena.
- Jabalcuz Premium, from SCA Sierra de la Pandera. Los Villares.
As organic EVOO:
- Melgarejo Organic, from Aceites Campoliva SL. Pegalajar.
The "Jaén Selección" recognition, promoted by the Provincial Council of Jaén, has been awarded to five cooperatives and three mills located in seven municipalities of the province.
Accompanied by the mayor of Úbeda, Antonia Olivares; the Deputy for Promotion and Tourism, Francisco Javier Lozano; and Brígida Jiménez, head of the tasting panel, the president of the provincial administration, Francisco Reyes, announced the names of the eight Extra Virgin Olive Oils (EVOOs) that will carry this quality seal throughout the next year. These products will be featured in promotional initiatives by the Jaén Provincial Council over the course of the year.
Among the 50 oils submitted to this year’s tasting competition, which included 42 conventional and 8 organic oils from 42 companies across 32 municipalities in the province, the eight EVOOs were selected. Reyes highlighted the farmers' effort during a challenging campaign due to drought, emphasizing the quality of the oils presented in the "Jaén Selección" tasting.
The president expressed his gratitude for the participation of 50 brands and congratulated the province’s cooperatives, which represent half of the oils in this competition, showing the sector’s commitment to quality.
The tasting panel was led by Brígida Jiménez and comprised experts from IFAPA in Cabra, the Institute of Fats in Seville, the Spanish Association of Olive Oil Municipalities (AEMO), the official Tasting Panel of Catalonia, the Oleoestepa cooperative in Seville, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), the Agro-Food Laboratory of Córdoba, and the Higher Institute of Agronomy of Lisbon.
The eight EVOOs "Jaén Selección 2024" will be the stars of promoting Jaén olive oil in various tourism and gastronomic events throughout the next year, participating in events such as Fitur, Madrid Fusión, San Sebastián Gastronomika, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Gala, Michelin Spain Gala, Salón de Gourmets, the World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE), as well as other provincial, national, and international fairs, and the First Olive Oil Festival of Jaén.
